The Haunted Hikes Remain Dead For 2011

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

Yes, it's true.

Another year, no haunted hikes.

Thanks to everyone that has kept their interest and enthusiasm alive.  We are constantly amazed that, even three years after the last hikes, so many people continue to ask about the hikes and want them to return.

Keep pushing.

Public Viewing

Friday, August 13, 2010

First things first:  There will be no Haunted Hikes for Halloween in 2010.

But, I've decided to make this blog public again as a way to:

-Address the continued interest in the Monrovia Canyon Park Haunted Hikes.  There are still a lot of people searching for this site and the park gets a lot of people asking about the hikes and hoping they'll return.
-Provide a public record of the Haunted Hikes.  Even though this site only covered one year, you'll be able to take a look and get an idea of what this event was all about.
-Thank the park staff and the countless volunteers for all the hard work put in over 6 years to make this event not just a success, but the Halloween event of the season.  We are proud of what we accomplished.
-Thank all the guests who joined us and made this event an overwhelming success.

Happy Friday the 13th!

Word On The Street

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

Yes, the hikes this year have been cancelled, but here are a few quotes from previous guests and those who would have been guests.  Just to remind us what we're missing.

-"I thought the hike last year was absolutely amazing."
-"I've been to all the major theme park haunted houses, and I can definitely say that the Monrovia Canyon one is better than all of them."
-"I would have drove down from Morro Bay for this very cool hike."
-"We drove from Rancho Cucamonga a couple years ago, it was the best time ever."
-"Beats Knott's, beats Universal."

There are no guarantees, but the best chance for these hikes to return is if the city understands the demand and just how much people enjoyed the event.  Let Community Services know - and be nice about it - how you feel about the hikes.

A turnaround in the economy wouldn't hurt either.

Post Removed

Friday, January 30, 2009

Due to the number of changes in the city and in the park, this post has been removed - but backed up and available.  Time to let the dust settle.  Thanks for all the comments and everyone who expressed their desire for the hikes to continue.  You have made it clear that the interest is strong and still there.  Thank you and keep it up!

Haunted Hike Photos

Sunday, October 26, 2008

The Hearse.  Wrecked on the side of the road. The horse got away and the coffin fell out of the back.

A swarm of flying skeletons to swoop down over your head.

The Zombies.  Careful, they may jump out at you!

These are just a part of one section.  There was so much more to experience.  If you weren't there, see what you missed!

I wish I could have gotten photos from other areas but setting up for the night isn't finished until right before the hikes start.  It just didn't leave enough time to get around to all the areas.

Sold Out

Saturday, October 25, 2008

I'm a little late with this but I still wanted to post it.

The hike is sold out and as the helpful people answering the phones at Community Services and the park can attest, there is still a huge demand for more.

Thanks to everyone who was able to get tickets and also to all those that tried to get tickets. We work on this all year long. That's not an exaggeration. The whole time we're hoping that people will show up and, if they do, they'll have a great time.

The demand for tickets and the responses from guests so far this year has been so positive, I can't begin to express how appreciative we are for that. The more fun you have, the more energized we get.

Thanks again.

Fun Fact #2

The setting for the hikes up in the foothills of Monrovia is what really sets us apart from everyone else.  It also causes our biggest challenges.  You may not realize that, aside from the permanent buildings in the park (the interior maze, bathrooms), there is no electricity available for the majority of the Haunted Hike path.

While you are walking up the road or coming back down the trail and enjoying all the lighting effects on the various scenes and locations along the way, think about this:  it was all done without access to a single electrical outlet.

Enjoy!
